18,000 people turned out for the East London Mela on Sunday which played host to a raft of top name bhangra artists.

Two stages were assembled at Barking Park in East London especially for the event. The annual event is now in its 8th year and featured the biggest Mela live set in the whole of the UK.

Among the artists invited to perform at the event was headline act and internationally renowned singer, Imran Khan, plus bhangra vocalist H-Dhami, Shanti Town and Raghav. Former Eastenders actress Priya Khalidas performed her new single, Shimmy, featuring Mumzy. BBC Asian Network presenter Sonia Deol hosted the show.

An Arts and Community stage was also assembled to help showcase the talents of up-and-coming local artists, and also community groups and other local organisations.

As well as the fantastic line-up of Asian musical talent, the Mela also featured funfair rides, and food and clothes stalls so there were plenty of attractions to keep all the family entertained.

The event is organised to unite the local community by offering an occasion where people from across the area, from different cultures and backgrounds, can come together to enjoy a day out. The event was also broadcast on TV channel View Asia so those who were unable to make it to the Mela could still enjoy some of the live performances taking place on the main stage.
