SC Productions releases new track ‘Jaan’

SC Productions in collaboration with Digital Records have released a brand new single. ‘Jaan’ which sees British DJ Suraj work alongside North American favourite Deep Jandu and Roach Killa. The three popular artists bring a unique blend of urban house and reggae to the desi beats, making ‘Jaan’ an addictive track that is poised to become of the biggest club hits of the season.

‘Jaan’ has been written by veteran lyricist and musician H Sandhu and is already creating a buzz among the media and fans alike for its distinctive tune and fresh appeal.

SC Productions, also known as Surajpal Singh Channa, was born and raised in the British town of Medway. As a well-known DJ, it was only a matter of time before he started spinning his own tracks. Hard Kaur releases second solo album P.L.A.Y

Indian hip hop queen Hard Kaur has released her latest single ‘Mujhey Peene Do’ along with the launch of her second album ‘P.L.A.Y – Party Loud All Year’ with record label Sony Music Entertainment. The long-awaited album was launched by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on the sets of TV programme Bigg Boss as part of the elimination episode to be aired on Indian television screens today.

After 35 chart busting hits spanning four years, Hard Kaur is not only India’s first female rapper but one of the world’s most successful musical talents in the bhangra and Punjabi music genre. Hard Kaur’s second album ‘P.L.A.Y – Party Loud All Year’ follows a five year hiatus since the launch of her first album ‘Supawoman’. Her new solo album features collaborations with musical sensations Mika, Lehmber Hussainpuri, Apeksha Dandekar and Eminem’s Band D12.

JK wins Best Album at UK Asian Music Awards

Bhangra icon Jazzy B live in November Bristol show

Bhangra music lovers are in for a treat! Jazzy B, also known as “the Crown Price of Bhangra”, will be performing at the Colston Hall in Bristol on Sunday 4 November and fans are eagerly waiting to see the star and hear his music live.

The international bhangra superstar will be in concert in an event hosted by the Asian Arts Agency in association with Colston Hall and will concentrate this appearance on his recent album release ‘Mahrarajas’. The Punjabi singer, who is one of the few to hold a firm control over the bhangra music industry, has become synonymous with energetic tunes as he continues to push the boundaries of modernised bhangra-pop.

Blending Punjabi folk music with Bollywood songs and R&B beats, Jazzy B’s live performance at Colson Hall promises to draw big crowds. Fans can also expect the singer to belt out other popular hits from previous albums like ‘Rambo’, ‘Romeo’ and ‘Tera Roop’ at the Bristol performance.

Born in Punjab, India, as Jaswinder Bains, Jazzy B travelled to Canada at the age of five where he spent his formative years. He now resides in Birmingham and performs at sold out concerts across the UK and internationally. His commitment to music and promotion of the bhangra genre has been recognised when Jazzy B was awarded an O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire) in 2008 for his services to music.

The multi-platinum singing superstar has collaborated with several influential artists in the Punjabi and bhangra music industry including Sukhshinder Shinda, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Gippy Grewal and Balkar Sidhu. Jazzy B is poised to make his cinematic debut with the Punjabi film Best of Luck. opposite Miss India Universe 2008 Simran Mundi.

RDB win award for pioneering Urban-Asian music at the Lebara UK Asian Music Awards

British Asian music group RDB have been awarded for their contribution to the UK Asian Music Scene at the Lebara UK Asian Music Awards (AMA) on 25 October 2012. The popular band are recognised for pioneering Urban-Asian music and the award adds another feather to the success of RDB.

The AMAs set the benchmark in the UK music industry for recognising and honouring musical talent. RDB scooping the award in the prestigious ‘Commitment to the Scene’ category at Wembley Arena in London is a powerful testament to the dedication and talent that this group demonstrates. RDB have been recognised for their driven attitude to enhance Urban-Bhangra music and bring it to the forefront of mainstream UK and international music. The awards at Thursday’s event further solidifies the band’s dedication to the cause.

RDB also won the Best Desi Act Award which was decided by public voting.

RDB’s Surj and Manj said on winning the awards: “We are really elated to have received these awards! It means a lot that our music has been recognised, not only by our loyal fans around the world and in the UK, but also by the British-Asian music industry which we shall always be a part of.

“RDB started out over a decade ago as the dream of three Bradford brothers. Today, we feel blessed to still be doing what we love and to be working with such amazing people. We are truly honoured to have written, produced and sung with some truly talented musicians.

The Bradford-based Punjabi band was formed in 2000 with Sikh brothers Manj, Kuly and Surj. RDB is now led by Manj and Surj after Kuly passed away in May this year. The band have performed with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Public Enemy and Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar.

Notorious JATT to release new single ‘Dosti’ in November

Notorious JATT’s highly anticipated album GameChanger is poised to launched starting with the release of the first single ‘Dosti’ on 1 November 2012. GameChanger has been in production for four years and feature some of Punjabi music’s biggest talents. The studio album from Silverbak Records will  hit store shelves after the launch of two more singles.

‘Dosti’, featuring the vocals of Jaswinder Daghamia, will be unveiled to a worldwide audience on 1 November as fans eagerly await the music from music maestro Notorious JATT who has carved a name for himself with hit songs such as Aish, Pegg, Marrey Dil Vaaliyan and Ramaal. ‘Dosti’ was written and recorded in Jalandhar in Punjab, India, and is the first collaboration between Jaswinder Daghamia and Notorious JATT. The launch of the single will be accompanied by a high quality video shot by Stormfield Productions.

‘Dosti’ is the first teaser for GameChanger and captures the raw folk nature of music that Notorious JATT is synonymous with.

Other vocalists who will feature on GameChanger on its worldwide release in the next few months include Preet Mahadipuria, Pargat & Jagdev Khan, Kulwinder Johal, Hardev Mahinangal, Nirmal Sidhu, Amrita Deepak and Inderpal Pandori. It also features a rare vocal number from music legend Kaka Bhaniawala which was recorded before the singer passed away in 2009. According to Notorious JATT, this was possibly the most special song that he has ever produced and fans are eager to hear this track.

Manni Sandhu releases ‘Balle Balle’ video

Bhangra artist Manni Sandhu is back with a video for his latest song ‘Balle Balle’ featuring the vocal talent Ashok Gill. After his past videos ‘Sona’ and ‘Door Ni Kulne’ ranked up millions of YouTube views, Manni’s new video is bound to be a hit with his fans!

All the songs, including the latest video for ‘Balle Balle’, are from Manni’s critically acclaimed debut album My Time  that has established him as a powerful act in the world of bhangra. Reflecting his unique take on bhangra music, ‘Balle Balle’ is a bhangra track with a twist further establishing Manni’s distinctive style.

The song itself consists of a skilful combination of hip-hop beats and an array of melodic sarangi and electric banjo tunes. With ‘Balle Balle’, Manni has showcased his progressive production techniques and versatility to the world.

The footage for the new video was filmed over the last three years and takes the viewer on a journey with Manni as he brings together his debut album. The video also provides fans with a glimpse of what the bhangra producer has been up to following the release of his album earlier this year.

Speaking about the experience, Manni says: “My aim was to bring to light the journey I’ve been on to the younger generation of bedroom producers and musicians. It shows that through hard work, training and dedication, anything is possible, and they can indeed live their dream like I am able to do today.”

The Firm to release new single ‘Lakk De Hullare’

The Firm, bringing together musical duo Juggy Dhanjal and J-Statik, are back with their second single ‘Lakk De Hullare’, featuring Aman Sandhu. The single will be realised on Thursday 25th October and comes  from the house of North American label E3NA records.

Juggy Dhanjal and J-Statik together combine twenty-one years in the industry with their djing experience spread across the Atlantic. These two Canadian-born producers have worked alongside E3UK’s very own Saini Surinder on their debut single ‘Shaunk’, which received immediate international recognition. Since then, they have been working exceptionally hard on their upcoming release ‘Lakk De Hullare’.

‘Lakk De Hullare’ features the powerful vocals of Aman Sandhu, who started his singing career at the age of 16. Born and raised in Chandigarh in India, Aman was very fond of listening to songs by the musical legends like Ustaad Gulam Ali, Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Gurdas Maan, Sardool Sikander, Hans Raj Hans and Mohammed Rafi. For the past five years, Aman has been training professionally under the expert tutelage of Ustaad Rajinder Raj and his vocal skills continue to expand every day.

J-Statik graduated in New York with a Diploma in Audio Engineering and has since has worked with several established North American artists. He is proficient in producing, recording and mixing and has returned to Toronto to pursue his dream of having his own studios. The other half of The Firm is Juggy Dhanjal, whose interest in music sprouted from his love of dance as a child. As a keen bhangra dancer, the young Juggy performed alongside fellow dancers at live gigs and festivals as part of a Bhangra team. Juggy went on to be part of the Nachdi Jawani Bhangra Team, one of North America’s largest bhangra teams. He has performed with some of the most established artists in the industry including Malkit Singh, Jazzy B and Sukshinda Shinda. Juggy also plays several  folk instruments like the Dhol, Tumbi and Harmonium.

The Boston Bhangra Competition returns with a bang

The ninth annual Boston Bhangra Competition will take place on Saturday, 10 November 2012, bringing in teams from across the United States and Canada. North America’s best bhangra teams will battle it out at the world renowned Orpheum Theatre in one of the US’ biggest cultural competitions.

This year, the competition will see 12 bhangra teams compete for top honours in hopes to be crowned the Boston Bhangra Champions.  Since the event first started in 2004, the Boston Bhangra Competition has established itself as the country’s leading bhangra contest. In its eight years, the show has received strong support not just from the Boston South Asian community but from across the US and has sold out performances with more than 3,000 people in attendance.

The competition is organised by Boston Bhangra, a society dedicated to cultural understanding and mentorship for youths through the common thread of bhangra. Bhangra is a folk dance from the state of Punjab and parts of Pakistan. It has often been compared to a fusion of hip hop and cheerleading with a cultural twist.  Bhangra has been integrated into many hip hop and reggae songs, and is a global upcoming foreign dance form.

Today, bhangra has taken on many definitions and commands an important part in many people’s lives for a variety of reasons. With the Boston Bhangra Competition and a range of other events, the Boston Bhangra group aim to harness this positive energy, give back to the community and grow as individuals and as part of a larger group.

This year, the Boston Bhangra Competition will host special guest performances by Bhangra superstar Saini Surinder from India and Gupsy Aujla from the UK. These are the people behind bhangra chartbusters like Bhangra, Mundran, Rangeele, Dupatta, Desi Peeni and many more.

The Boston Bhangra Competition will be broadcast internationally via television, newspaper, radio, and the internet, making it the largest South Asian promoted event in the northeast!
