A new innovative dance group has been masterminded by the Birmingham Opera Company to bring something a little different to a forthcoming production. The dance troupe will take part in a new performance of Verdi’s Othello with performers of all abilities, from all kinds of dance backgrounds, due to take part.

A range of different dance projects have been taking place across Birmingham in recent months bringing together a raft of dance disciplines including bhangra, hip hop, break dancing, morris dancing and contemporary dance.

The assistant choreographer at the Birmingham Opera Company, Jen Irons, said they did encounter some teething problem bringing all the different forms of dance together as one. However these glitches were quickly ironed out and the production has taken shape.

Ms Irons said that their intention for the project was to get as many people from as many different backgrounds as possible involved in the production, as she said: “Part of the idea and overall ethos of Birmingham Opera Company is that the only way to sustain an audience is to let people experience it for themselves,” She added, “It has always been part of the process to get people involved.”

The curtain goes up on this exciting production of Verdi’s Othello on December 5th with a number of other performances scheduled for December 7th, 9th, 12th, 14th, 17th and 19th at the Argyle Works, Great Barr Street, Birmingham.
