The two brothers which make up Tigerstyle, one of the UK’s biggest bhangra hip hop acts, will be working alongside 3 students studying music and composition at Stevenson College Edinburgh as part of a new commission by Paragon Music.
The 3 students have undergone workshops with Tigerstyle in order to learn about how to incorporate sample music into the compositions which the group are all working on individually. The aspiring composers are preparing to create their own digital mix of a new piece of music created by one of their lecturers, Tommy Fowler.
The Tigerstyle duo, Raj and Pops, have a strong musical background having undergone extensive training in classical tabla, Gurmat Sangeet, and a variety of Punjabi folk instrumentation. The pair are also heavily influenced by contemporary forms of music such as Hip Hop, Drum ‘n Bass and dance.
A performance of the new compositions by the students and also a performance by Tigerstyle featuring the work of Tommy Fowler will take place tonight at 7pm, at the Music Box auditorium at the College in Edinburgh.
