Bollywood to get its first 3D movie

Bollywood is gearing up for its first ever 3D movie after the film editor turned director, Shirish Kunder, revealed that his directorial debut will be shot using 3D technology.

It’s an ambitious project for Kunder’s first outing as a director, but one he’s determined to make spectacular. Entitled Joker, the film will be the first Bollywood movie to be made in 3D creating a new milestone within the Hindi movie industry.

The first time director says the movie is not a superhero based film, and neither does it have any connection to Batman or Raj Kapoor’s movie of the same name. Instead the film is described as an adventure fantasy, and will star popular Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles.

However the former film editor has been using some alternative methods for finding cast members. Shirish Kunder has turned to social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter to ask his followers and friends for their opinion on who should be cast in the Joker movie, and also who should provide the music for the film.

Encouraged by the success of the 3D Hollywood blockbuster Avatar, the Bollywood film makers are queuing up to get a slice of the action. Shirish Kunder isn’t the only Hindi film maker with 3D plans in mind, fellow directors Shekhar Kapur and Ram Gopal have revealed that their forthcoming movies will also be shot in 3D.
