International bhangra star Jazzy B will be headlining this year’s Gravesend Community Mela Festival. The bhangra guru, who has recently returned from touring the US and Canada, is looking forward to his Kent performance that is also a strong fan base.
The Gravesend Community Mela Festival is a free event to boost the spirit of community and will take place on Saturday 14 July at The Promenade, Riverside leisure area from 2pm – 6.30pm.
Jazzy B said: “I have many fans in Kent and it is good for me to be given an opportunity to perform again in Gravesend where I am always welcomed. Music is a great way of bringing communities together and I hope as in the previous times I have performed in Gravesend all the different communities come and enjoy a great day out at the Riverside.”
The festival, organised by Cohesion Plus Kent and Kent Equality Cohesion Council, along with the assistance of Arts Council England, will also feature a range of other acts including Anaconda Belly Dancers, Steel Ambition, Rosherville Primary School Choir, the Gravesham Legacy Dance Team, young singer Alexander Bullem and Four by Four Bhangra Dancers.
Artistic director for the festival, Gurvinder Sandher, said: “We are really pleased with the programme that we have developed for the Mela. There is something for everyone from local pop singers and school choirs to internationally recognised bhangra stars, from belly dancing to street dance and from calypso to hip hop.
“We hope the communities will come out and enjoy the music, dance and food at this free family event.”
So, if you fancy a bit of bhangra this weekend, head over to the Gravesend Community Mela Festival!
