JK at the Brit Asia Music Awards 2010

UK born bhangra singer JK was named the Best Newcomer at the Brit Asia Awards on Sunday night.

The ambitious singer cemented his position as one of the rising stars in the world of bhangra music by claiming the top award. The Best Newcomer category was hotly contested with a whole host of other emerging stars also receiving a nomination including Kazz Kumar, Jaz Dhami, Mumzy, Jaswinder Daghamia and Roach Killa.

The singer from Derby is riding high at the moment as he also picked up the award for Best Newcomer at the UK Asian Music Awards which were held at London’s Festival Hall back in March.

JK’s music is heavily influenced by traditional bhangra sounds and he’s also undergone classical vocal training so his tracks are very authentic in style, with a contemporary edge. It wasn’t long before the talented vocalist came to the attention of leading record company, VIP Records, who quickly signed up the youngster.

Since joining forces with VIP Records JK hasn’t looked back. Working in conjunction with top name music producer Tru Skool, JK has gone on to release a number of tracks including Chooteh Laareh and Pat Liyah. Music fans are now eagerly awaiting the release of JK’s album Gabru Panjab Dha which will be available from June.
