Kim Kardashian offers apology after branding Indian food “disgusting”, 8.2 out of 10 based on 5 ratings

Keeping up with Kim Kardashian can really take the breath out of you! Between accusing British Airlines of stealing her sunglasses, sharing photographs of herself doused in water while wearing a skimpy orange halter neck bra and a beige crop top, and canoodling with beau Kanye West, the reality star found the time to brand Indian food “disgusting”.

Sharing her fine dining views on her reality TV show, ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, Kim labelled Indian food “disgusting”. Viewers across the world took to microblogging website, Twitter, expressing their disapproval at the American socialite’s poor tactic.

As an Indian, and a masala addict, I find Kim’s comments not just flippant but outright ignorant. Sure, the celebutante offered an apology on her blog: “In NO way was this intended as an insult to the Indian people or their culture. This is just my own personal taste. There are a lot of foods I don’t like… I hate cilantro and peppers, and there are definitely some Armenian foods that I personally find disgusting, but that doesn’t reflect my opinions on other Armenian people or my culture. My comment wasn’t intended to offend anybody. We all have our own opinions and tastes and I was simply expressing mine.” It still begs the question, was this an apology or a defensive rant?

One Twitter user commented: “I think its good Kim Kardashian doesn’t like Indian food because that means she won’t ever visit India and that in itself is a blessing.”

Can’t say I disagree. Sure, we don’t like certain foods. No one’s holding you against your personal choice Kim. However, being on national television with a camera in your face, carelessly attributing the cuisine of a whole nation “disgusting” is poor form and is bound to get Indians riled up.

Moreover, what is really quite sad is that I bet Miss Kardashian hasn’t even tasted a small fraction of the immense depth and variety of food that India has to offer. So you hate cilantro (that’s coriander for you and me) and peppers? Come on love, there’s plenty of curries that don’t use these ingredients.

It’s probably best Kim sticks to her burgers and fries – we wouldn’t want complex tastes to confuse her. It does make you wonder though, does controversy follow this Kardashian or is she out to find it?

Actually felt a little sorry for her after this. It’s a shame for her that she can’t have a normal life and say what she actually thinks rather than reading her existence from a script.
I don’t like Chinese food. There: I said it. Luckily for me, there will be no consequences to this comment.
