Katy Perry confirmed as guest performer at IPL Opening Night

She may not be a star of bhangra music or bollywood movies, but as one of the biggest names in popular music right now, Katy Perry is likely to be a welcome addition to the IPL opening night line up, and a major coup for the event’s organisers who’ll no doubt be congratulating themselves on bagging an international star.

India is famously fanatical about its love of cricket, and the opening night of the Indian Premier League in Chennai on April 3rd is one of the biggest nights of the year. Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan had been revealed as one of the performers on the night, however it’s now understood Big B will also be hosting the whole event.

Other famous faces from the world of bollywood scheduled to appear at the star studded event early next month include Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Salman Khan who are all expected to take to the stage to entertain the IPL players and guests at the opening night.

26-year-old Perry is obviously excited at the prospect of performing at the high profile event as the One That Got Away singer took to her Twitter account last week to write, “Put on your dancing shoes, I’m all set to bring it @ IPL Opening Night!” The American pop star is no stranger to India as she chose to wed her now ex husband, Russell Brand, in the country back in 2010 after the couple first got engaged in India while on holiday.

Jay Sean debuts his new look at the Grammy Awards

British Asian star, Jay Sean, debuted his new look on the red carpet at the 54th annual Grammy Awards last weekend, the perfect place to show off his new longer hair do. The R&B hitmaker looked years younger, almost reminiscent of how the singer looked when he first came on the music scene back in 2003 when he was Rishi Rich’s protégé.

The Down singer has grown out his hair, a departure from his usual skin-head look, and is now sporting a spiky head of hair. Jay Sean looked especially dapper on the red carpet at the Grammy’s, posing for photographers wearing a slick black suit with shiny lapels, teamed with a pale gold tie and matching handkerchief in his top pocket.

However it seemed as if the 30-year-old was feeling a little apprehensive at the prospect of showcasing his new look as the singer papped looking at his reflection in the car window. Jay Sean even took to Twitter to explain the picture, saying he was just making sure he hadn’t left anything in the car, insisting that he wasn’t “checking” himself out!

As well as showing off his new hairdo to fans this week, Jay Sean also treated his loyal followers with a special Valentine’s Day present. The R&B singer shared an acoustic version of his 2009 hit, Do You Remember, with his fans on February 14th to share the love on Valentine’s Day.

Bhangra Showdown issues Leicester University with 5 year ban for breaking rules

Bhangra Showdown, the largest inter-university bhangra group competition in the UK, has issued students from the University of Leicester with a 5 year ban on entering the contest after three of the contestants who took part in the 2012 event were found to not be students at the university which meant they were not eligible to compete.

The Bhangra Showdown have issued an official statement in which they fully outline the situation which was presented to them when their suspicions were raised over the legitimacy of three of the Leicester University’s team members eligibility to perform in the contest.

The three Leicester group members were unable to produce valid email addresses prior to the event to prove they were students and so the group were presented with a choice, to either take a 15 point deduction, or to perform at the show as an exhibition act. However the Leicester team chose to leave all together, which the competition organisers felt was a great shame as it would have meant those who had travelled to support the team would be left disappointed.

At this point, all choreographers from the competing teams were consulted and it was agreed that Leicester would compete, however if they were unable to present evidence to show that the three questionable members of the Leicester team were in fact students by 1pm on Tuesday February 14th, then they would have 15 points deducted. The team members failed to submit proof, and consequently, their 15 points have been deducted and the University has been banned from entering the Bhangra Showdown for the next 5 years.

The competition organisers say the ban is necessary to “maintain the principles and integrity of the show” adding that “stringent identity checks” will be implemented next year to ensure ineligible contestants to do slip through the net and are allowed to compete in the competition again.

Bhangra singer Jaz Dhami plans new single with Eren E

If you’ve been pining for bhangra singer Jaz Dhami of late, then here’s some good news for you and all of the UK based singer’s fans. After almost a year out of the limelight, 25-year-old Jaz is due to make his musical comeback in 2012 with the release of a brand new club track produced by a well known record maker.

Jaz Dhami hasn’t released a single since last January when Tere Naal, produced by DJ Harvey, became a hit for the vocalist from Birmingham. However the rest of 2011 passed without as much as a hint of a new record from the popular singer.

That is all about to change in 2012 as Jaz Dhami has reportedly been hard at work putting in the hours on his second album which will be the follow up to his debut record, JD released in 2009. Teke Wali was one of the biggest hits to come off Jaz’s debut album and the singer will be hoping to emulate its success with the first release off what is tipped to be his next album.

There had been rumours that Jaz Dhami was working with music producer, Eren E, who is famed for producing the smash hit record, Amplifier, for Imran Khan. Jaz confirmed his involvement with the hitmaker himself by writing on Twitter recently, “Touchdown in Amsterdam, here to do some work with Eren E.”

The new track from Jaz Dhami in association with Eren E is still unnamed at present, however it’s believed to be an up-tempo club track and due for release in early 2012.

According to friends of the 36-year-old actress, Shilpa Shetty is very much enjoying being pregnant and eating healthily to ensure the pregnancy progresses smoothly.
