Brit Asia TV’s first ever awards ceremony coming soon

The first ever Brit Asia TV Awards will take place in Birmingham

Brit Asia TV is set to launch its first ever awards ceremony with the event itself taking place over the May Bank Holiday weekend at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.

Some of the biggest names from the world of Asian music will be grace the stage on the night to keep the crowd well entertained. The awards will celebrate the best singers and performers from the Asian music industry on May 2nd.

There will 14 different categories as part of the awards and music lovers get to vote to nominate their favourite artist in any which section. To vote you will need to visit the Brit Asia TV website, you’ll also find information there on how to buy tickets for the ceremony.

The nominees will be revealed on March 31st and will be broadcast on Brit Asia TV. After which the voting lines will open for fans to cast their votes to find a winner from each category.

Brit Asia TV hope to make the event an annual affair so as to continue to reward and recognise the best emerging Asian talent from the UK.

DJ H of Kudos Roadshow fame up for top award at the British Asian Music Awards

One of the biggest names on the international Asian club scene, DJ H, has been nominated for one of the top awards of the night at the forthcoming British Asian Music Awards ceremony.

The bestselling DJ narrowly missed out on the gong for Best Album last year for his hit record Reloaded. DJ H collaborated with long time friend and colleague, DJ Rags to create the smash hit album.

Last Friday night’s final for Brit Asia Superstar saw 12 talented hopefuls battle it out to win the £50,000 single record deal and the opportunity to launch a professional music career. The event was held at the NEC Arena in Birmingham and was televised on Brit Asia TV.

The public had the final say on who should become the winner of the coveted prize. All 12 finalists sang their hearts out in the first round in front of a judging panel which included bhangra legend Channi Singh and international star, Sukshinder Shinda. The 4 original judges, Shin (DCS) Mona Singh, Khiza and Harj D (XS-BASS) were also present to cast their expert eyes over the fledgling artists.

After all 12 had performed, the 4 contestants which had impressed the most were unveiled and were invited back to perform again for the chance to win the superb prize. The final 4 in the running to become the show’s winner were Jay Malik, Hardeep Bariana, Sazi Judge and Ajay Balkar Roudh.

The final 4 gave it their all as they took to the stage for the last time, however there could only be one winner. The finalists congregated back onto the stage to await the announcement from Brit Asia TV owner Jaz Bal. After a fiercely fought contest Ajay Balkar Roudh from Nottingham emerged triumphant, and was named Brit Asia Superstar 2009 and was awarded the £50,000 single contract.

The night will be hosted by none other than Bollywood film and adult film star, Sunny Leone. It’s quite a coup for Sunny as the event marks the first time an Indian film star of this nature has hosted a desi party. However the actress already enjoys a high profile in the USA having taken on roles in several movies and TV projects including, Girls Next Door, Ja Rules’ Livin’ it up music video, plus numerous appearances on MTV.

The gig at H.Wood is expected to be a sell out, with ticket sales already going through the roof. The event will spell the beginning of a stint in the US for the Kudos Music duo as DJ H and Jas Johal are also lined up to play a number of dates in the party capital of the world over New Years, Las Vegas.

After more than 400 bhangra, R&B, and Pop wannabes entered the Brit Asia Superstar competition, the entrants have been whittled down to the final 27. Among that group nervously waiting to hear if they’ve made it through to the final, are two acts from Hounslow.

Dubbed the Asian version of the X-Factor, the winner of the competition will receive a £50,000 recording contract. Vying for that prize is Jaspal Khehra and Hardeep Bariana, both from Hounslow.

25-year-old Jaspal is currently working as a prison officers but has aspirations of becoming an R&B star. During his audition, the judges said he reminded them of another Hounslow boy, Jay Sean. However Jaspal is keen to show is he a unique artist and is planning to perform his own material should he get through to the next round.

Hardeep is 20-years-old and in the final year of a maths degree, the student is competing in the bhangra category of the competition. Despite only becoming involved in performing recently, Hardeep has come on leaps and bounds and has even sang and danced in front of an audience of 3,500 people at a charity event at the Royal Festival Hall.

The vote lines are due to close today (Sunday) as the public decide who will make the final 12 and go through to perform at the Birmingham NEC Arena on December 18th. The show will be broadcast live on sky channel 833.

Brit Asia Superstar: The search is hotting up to find the first star

Brit Asia SuperstarThe first ever talent show to find a future bhangra, bollywood or R&B Asian superstar is really hotting up. A panel of celebrity judges including SHIN, Mona Singh, Khiza and the programme’s founder and director, Harj D have visited 10 different cities across the UK as part of their quest to uncover the next big thing to hit the Asian music scene.

Harj D came up with the idea of the project after noticing that the talent of British Asians was not being showcased on other big talent searches in the UK such as X-Factor. By setting up a show which specialises in Asian music, Harj D hopes to unearth some raw fresh talent from the world of bhangra, bollywood and R&B.

The first round of auditions has taken place in mobile booths up and down the country. The format is similar to that of X-Factor as the contestants get whittled down to the final 12 who will then go on to perform on television with the public deciding who stays and who goes.

Each finalist will also be provided with mentor to help them during the course of the show. Some of the biggest names in Asian music have been lined up as mentors for the lucky contestants including, Sukshinder Shinda, Panjabi MC, DJ VIX, Hunters, Juggy D, and Aman Hayer.

The final 12 will be announced very soon with the first show scheduled for Friday 18th of December at Birmingham’s NEC Arena.
