Bhangra star Garry Sandhu to quit music industry

Popular Punjabi singer Garry Sandhu has announced his intention to quite the music industry after having delivered some of bhangra’s biggest hits. In an emotional status update on his Facebook page, Garry expressed his desire to quit professional singing and return to a normal life, much to the surprise of his 106,000 fans.

Garry, one of Punjabi music’s fastest growing stars, boasts an impressive climb to fame in 2010 that earned him double honours at the 2011 Brit Asian Music Awards. Garry won both categories that he was nominated in – Best Newcomer, and Best Male Act.

The popular singer has been mired in controversy, having been deported from Britain last year following allegations of settling in the country illegally. Soon after, he released the hit song Brick with beat maker GV. The song featured on number 58 in the UK mainstream charts.

One fan on Facebook, expressing shock, said: “YOU CANT STOP SINGIN NOW! NOT AFTER EVERYTHING!!!”

Another heartbroken fan wrote: “Plz dont Quit…. we all luv your songs…♥ :( “

On his Facebook status, Garry asks his fans to believe in themselves and chase their dreams. He reminds them that you only live once and to take full advantage of the life they have.

Garry still has a few projects lined up that include a duet with H Dhami, in association with the internationally famous DJ Dips. Garry is also signed on for two songs on Dipps Bhamrah’s upcoming album.

Garry Sandhu claims a new single alongside Sudesh Kumari will be his final song.

DJ H wins big at the 2012 PTC Punjabi Music Awards

DJ H Kudos RoadshowTop UK club DJ and music producer, DJ H, has done it again, this time scooping two trophies at the recent Punjabi Music Awards 2012. The UK based DJ, real name Hardeep Kataria, whose recent single Jawani 2 topped the iTunes chart and become an instant smash hit, walked away with two awards making him one of the biggest winners of the night along with fellow UK based artist, Jazzy B who scooped three gongs at the ceremony.

DJ H received the PMA award for Best Sound Recording for the track, Sahan to Pyarian and also Best Non-Resident Punjabi Music Director at the fifth annual Punjabi Music Awards which was held in Jalandhar on March 24th.

Jazzy B was another big winner on the night after the talented vocalist was named Best Non-Resident Punjabi Vocalist, and also received the award for Best Non Resident Punjabi Album for Maharajas and Best Music Video for Hukam.

Punjabi singer, Garry Sandhu, who recently hit the headlines after he was deported from the UK after he remained in Britain after his visa ran out, was also honoured at this year’s Punjabi Music Awards, winning the trophy for Best Male Debut Vocalist.

2012 is shaping up to be yet another great year for Kudos Music star, DJ H, with a hit record under his belt thanks to the success of Jawani 2, two PMA awards and having recently bagged a regular spot at a top Dubai nightclub as well as a growing following in Delhi and the Punjab.

Garry Sandhu confirms deportation in official statement

The rising Asian music star, Garry Sandhu, has lost his battle with UK immigration officials and has confirmed that he will be deported back to India tomorrow. The singer made the announcement on his Facebook page today, with many of his 14,000 rushing to comment on the status update and offer their support.

The award winning music star’s future in the UK has been hanging in the balance since his arrest on October 27th 2011 by UK Border Agency after he was suspected of breaking UK immigration law. It later transpired that Garry Sandhu had remained in the UK after his visa had run out, which lead the authorities to track him down and ask questions about the legitimacy of his residency in the UK.

Despite being detained in an immigration detention centre since his arrest, aside from a brief period before Christmas when he was released on bail, Garry has kept his fans up to date on his situation through his social media page.

Close friend and fellow music star Roach Killa posted a statement on Garry’s behalf in the wake of his arrest last year, with Garry Sandhu taking to his Facebook page himself today to break the news of his imminent deportation. In the status update, the vocalist writes defiantly, “To my haters, you will never stop me making music wherever I am in the world.”

The news of Garry Sandhu’s deportation will come as quite a blow for the Asian music fans as the singer was seen as one of the big stars of tomorrow on the UK bhangra scene with Garry scooping two of the top trophies at the 2011 Brit Asia Music Awards including Best Newcomer and Best Male Act.

Garry Sandhu’s official statement about his immigration issue

Garry Sandhu, the Brit Asia award winning singer has been arrested by the UK Border Agency for violating UK immigrations laws. It is revealed that he has not honoured his status to leave the country on a voluntary basis after not having the right to stay in the UK.

Gurmukh Singh Sandhu (Garry Sandhu), the winner of the Best Newcomer and Best Male Act at the recent Brit Asia Awards 2011, was arrested and taken into custody on 27th October 2011.

Garry Sandhu has given the following statement to bhangra.org:

“After recent false accusations made against me, I still continue to do what I love best in providing the fans that I love dearly with my music. I can not control peoples actions and I am at the top of my game expect haters to hate, but in the end the truth sets any man free! And this is what you will see in the coming days. For I cannot lie to those I love or to my fans they are most important in my life! As an individual I was taught to be cautious now after allowing negative people into my life, that have taken advantage. Thank you for those who have supported me and I will not stop doing what I enjoy!!! Love you all and be safe.”

This news will be a shock to the Asian music industry and his fans who saw Gary Sandhu as a new rising star in the scene.

DESIblitz.com has confirmed the arrest after receiving an email statement from the UK Border Agency. Toby Allanson from the UK Border Agency in the statement said:

“We can confirm an Indian national was detained yesterday in the West Midlands area. When someone is found not to have a right to remain in the UK, we expect them to leave voluntarily. If they fail to do so, we will seek to enforce their removal.”

Jay Sean to headline the London Mela 2011

Jay Sean has been announced as the headline act at this year’s London Mela due to take place on Sunday September 2nd.

BBC Asian Network presenter, Tommy Sandhu, revealed the news of Jay’s scheduled appearance at the Mela live on air. Much to the delight of Jay Sean fans, the singer is due to perform a 45 minute long set.

The performance at Gunnersby Park in Ealing will be the first time Jay has taken to the stage at an Asian event in three years.

The performance at the London Mela 2011 in Ealing will be something of a homecoming gig for Jay Sean who was born and brought up in nearby Hounslow. As well as performing some the biggest hits which helped him make his name both here and in the US, Jay will also treat the audience to a number of exclusive performances of songs from his forthcoming album.

In addition to the main stage which will host some of the biggest names in Asian entertainment, the Mela also offers a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talents on the BBC Introducing stage. The full line up of artists due to perform on this stage is due shortly.  

If you can’t make the London Mela, don’t despair as the BBC Asian Network will be broadcasting live from the popular event between 2pm and 9pm.

As well as the hugely popular Jay Sean, other top names who will be keeping the crowds entertained on the main stage at the London Mela include Jazzy B, Garry Sandhu, Bollywood singer Ash King and Mumzy Stranger.

Garry Sandhu reveals promo video for new single Shan to Pyariya

Up and coming bhangra singer Garry Sandhu has just revealed a teaser video for his forthcoming single Shan to Pyariya which also features top name music maker DJ H of Kudos Roadshow.

The new teaser video succeeds in drawing the viewer in with what promises to be a compelling narrative. Music fans are excited about the release of the new single as many are eager to hear the result of Garry’s collaboration with DJ H who is one of the most sought after DJs working on the club circuit today.

Garry Sandhu’s last track release, Dil De De saw him team up with two big names to create the single, namely Surinder Rattan and Roach Killa. The song had a definite urban vibe, and proved to be a hit for the aspiring singer as the single reached number 7 in the UK iTunes chart just before Christmas.

2011 has got off to a great start for the singer as he received a nomination for the Best Newcomer Award at the upcoming UK Asian Music Awards earlier this month.
