Bhangra legend, Malkit Singh, is in line to receive a special honour from the city of Birmingham with the addition of his own star on the Broad Street Walk of Stars making him the first Asian to receive this credit.
The 49-year-old singer has lived in the city since 1984 when he first moved to the UK and began work at a Denim factory before finding fame and a new career path as the front man of one of the longest running bhangra groups, Gold Star. Now, the city which took the talented singer to its heart is set to honour one of its brightest Asian talents by including a star on Birmingham’s own walk of fame especially for Malkit Singh.
The Gold Star singer is no stranger to receiving special honours as Malkit became the first Asian to be awarded an MBE when he was included on the Queen’s New Year’s honours list in 2008.
An official spokesperson for the Broad street Walk of Stars confirmed that they are in talks to include a star to honour Malkit Singh on the site, however the plan is yet to been finalised. If all goes according to plan, the bhangra singer could have his star on the Birmingham street by the end of the year.
