Miss Pooja’s star has been steadily rising since embarking on a professional career in music back in 2006. But 2009 has seen the bhangra and folk singer really come into her own and become a very worthy winner of the title of Bhangra Girl of 2009.

The young Miss Pooja had a natural aptitude for music as a youngster and after studying for a degree in music at University, she set about launching a professional career as a singer. Initially her music was released in India but proved so successful, she later launched herself over in the UK.

2009 kicked off in great style for the songstress as she racked up a string of hits singing on the DJ H and RJ Rags track, Char Panj, and also the Panjabi By Nature single, Aashiq. Later Miss Pooja released her first single of the year, Mera Mahi Tu Pateya featuring Lembher Hussainpuri which went on to earn her another hit.

During the spring, Miss Pooja hit the headlines for another reason other than her music. An internet rumour took hold which claimed that the singer had died. Miss Pooja put the false claims to bed by making a public appearance to prove that she was in fact, very much alive and well.   

Back to the music, Miss Pooja released her solo album Romantic Jatt to great success in 2009. A number of singles and videos followed which proved very popular with the bhangra fans and she racked up another clutch of hits.

Miss Pooja’s reign at the top of the charts looks set to continue into 2010 as news reaches us that she’s working on yet another round of duets with some high profile stars.
