Last Friday night’s final for Brit Asia Superstar saw 12 talented hopefuls battle it out to win the £50,000 single record deal and the opportunity to launch a professional music career. The event was held at the NEC Arena in Birmingham and was televised on Brit Asia TV.
The public had the final say on who should become the winner of the coveted prize. All 12 finalists sang their hearts out in the first round in front of a judging panel which included bhangra legend Channi Singh and international star, Sukshinder Shinda. The 4 original judges, Shin (DCS) Mona Singh, Khiza and Harj D (XS-BASS) were also present to cast their expert eyes over the fledgling artists.
After all 12 had performed, the 4 contestants which had impressed the most were unveiled and were invited back to perform again for the chance to win the superb prize. The final 4 in the running to become the show’s winner were Jay Malik, Hardeep Bariana, Sazi Judge and Ajay Balkar Roudh.
The final 4 gave it their all as they took to the stage for the last time, however there could only be one winner. The finalists congregated back onto the stage to await the announcement from Brit Asia TV owner Jaz Bal. After a fiercely fought contest Ajay Balkar Roudh from Nottingham emerged triumphant, and was named Brit Asia Superstar 2009 and was awarded the £50,000 single contract.
