Malkit Singh

Malkit Singh, MBE was named as the biggest selling Bhangra artist of all time in the Guinness Book of Records in 2000. As an icon of Bhangra and Punjabi music he has established an international fan base. The unofficial king of Bhangra was rewarded by the Queen for his services to Punjabi music and was presented with an MBE in 2008.

The award winning singer-songwriter, Malkit, was born in a small village in India in 1972. His first appearance on the Bhangra music scene came in 1986. He has since gone on to create some of the anthems of the 80’s and 90’s with his backing band Golden Star. One of his most famous hits is Tootak Tootak Tootiyan and Gur Nalo Ishq Mita. He has also provided music for the soundtrack of Britflick Bend it Like Beckham.

Malkit is a live phenomenon and his concerts attract thousands of people. Along with his backing band they have performed in over 27 different countries around the world. He is well known in America and was granted the freedom of the city of Los Angeles in 1997 for his services to the Indian community. He was invited to sing at the world famous US Super Bowl final in September 2009.

This old school Bhangra star enlisted the help of young hip music producer Rishi Rich and Panjabi MC to help work on his newly released album, 21st Chapter.
